Thomson relocates part of its computer manufacturing to France

Laptops manufactured until now in China are now assembled in France. This is the bet of Thomson, which has just relocated part of its production. "We are on the medium and high end, between 500 to 1,000 parts per week, and we plan to increase to 2,000 parts fairly quickly", specifies Stephan Français, CEO of Thomson Computing. An unprecedented project in France, in a sector dominated by American and Asian giants which has generated about twenty new hires. Here, there is no assembly line, each computer is entirely assembled by a single employee. The goal ? Better quality control, but also more independence vis-à-vis its Chinese subcontractors. If it manages to continue to grow, the company hopes to eventually assemble up to 20% of its production in France.
