45 - Orrion Chemicals Orgaform brilliantly recycles used mattresses

The OCO chemical plant has created a unique unit in the world, transforming mattresses into polyol which we re-foam. On September 21, Christian Siest, president of Orrion Chemicals Orgaform (OCO), in Semoy, inaugurated a new activity, unique in the world: the depolymerization of used mattresses. It is in fact the chemical recycling of old mattresses, an operation that requires heavy, complex and expensive equipment. Everything was thought out two and a half years ago, with Dow Polyurethanes, an American group that is a client of OCO. The new facilities, on the huge Seveso site of 4.4 hectares located in the Pressoir vert area in Semoy, required several million euros, benefiting from 2.5 million euros in aid. This new activity has already enabled OCO to grow from 40 to 51 employees. Turnover could increase from 11.3 to 25 million euros in 2025. Especially since Christian Siest is already talking not only about doubling the capacity at Semoy next year but also about opening ten units of depolymerization across France.
