Centrifugal clutches and brakes, from Suco
Suco centrifugal clutches and brakes use centrifugal force to transmit power (clutch) or slow down a gear (brake). Using a simple physics principle, these drive systems do not require any external power source, making them particularly suitable for security applications. They consist of a drive shaft comprising flyweights equipped with friction lining and retained by springs. When the centrifugal force exceeds the force of the springs, the friction linings move away from their rest position transmitting the torque to the bell. If the bell is free to turn, we are in the presence of a clutch. If the bell is fixed, then we are in the presence of a brake.
