The Opinel factory expands

In Chambéry, in Savoie, the century-old family ETI Opinel is investing 10 million euros in a new factory dedicated to the manufacture of its famous knife. Faced with the cramped conditions of its current production site, the company acquired two hectares of land opposite its site. With an annual production of 6.5 million knives, this land expansion guarantees the company a perspective for decades to come. It will free up space in existing industrial processes by moving some of the equipment, while increasing production capacities and repatriating certain operations outsourced due to lack of space. With this in mind, the teams will also be reorganized, with a recruitment rate maintained at between 15 and 20 new employees per year. A significant part of operations will remain manual, notably the refining and packaging of knives, which will require additional hiring to support production ambitions and product development.
